Election to go on as planned: Raja Riaz Election to go on as planned: Raja Riaz ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to postpone the by-elections in NA-123, Lahore.
Petitioner Ilyas Gujjar who is also a contesting candidate for the NA-123 seat has decided to boycott the by-polls.
A three-member bench of the court headed by Justice Javed Iqbal heard the petition requesting the by-polls’ postponement.
The court in its short order said election results will be subject to the final decision of the Supreme Court.
Gujjar had requested the postponement on the grounds that the election commission should have only announced a fresh polling date instead of a fresh election schedule in lieu of the Supreme Court’s judgement.
His counsel Ahmed Raza Kasuri argued that fresh nomination papers could not be invited in NA-123 as that stage had already passed when the by-elections were postponed in the said constituency.
The bench issued notices to all the respondents.
